Monitor Mondays Marks 10th Anniversary of Inaugural Broadcast

Monitor Mondays, the weekly live podcast produced by RACmonitor.com, is marking the 10th anniversary of its inaugural edition with an extended hour-long live podcast, it’s first of the new calendar year, at 9 a.m. CST on Monday, January 13.

“RACmonitor was launched in 2008 because, at that time, the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program was gaining traction. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) had recently concluded a demonstration (pilot) of the RAC concept with four states, and the consensus was that CMS would move forward, and so we wanted to alert hospitals to this new development,” RACmonitor.com Publisher and Monitor Mondays Program Host and Executive Producer Chuck Buck recalled. “The federal auditing that began at that point has only intensified ever since, and Monitor Mondays quickly became a landmark, go-to feature that helps us keep readers and listeners informed.”

Nearly 12,400 professionals from across the U.S. healthcare system subscribe and listen in to Monitor Mondays each week – more than two listeners for each of the estimated 5,500-6,000 hospitals currently operating nationwide. Of those listeners, as many as 1,000 tend to tune in live each Monday morning, and far more take in the recorded podcast, which from 2018 into 2019 boasted more than 250,000 replays across the various streaming platforms that now offer it – including Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, TuneIn, and Stitcher.

“As a new decade begins, it will be more important than ever for compliance practitioners to stay informed and engaged. The interest in healthcare coordination and accountability to secure value-based, positive health outcomes will only accelerate in the future, with the introduction of new technological tools and additional scientific discoveries. Compliance officials will play a critical role in ensuring that their providers maintain sound compliance practices as new delivery and payment designs are implemented to meet these new expectations,” said former U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General Daniel Levinson, who resigned last year after serving 15 years in that capacity. “As the compliance mission becomes more central to enterprise success, having the right information-gathering and networking opportunities are critical. Through its weekly broadcasts, RACmonitor provides a highly efficient and timely service, precisely to meet these ever-growing needs.”

Levinson was one of 10 healthcare industry experts to record testimonials about the 10th anniversary of Monitor Mondays’ launch – some of which will be shared during the special hour-long live podcast.

“Monitor Mondays has become an indispensable source of information for healthcare providers of many different types,” said William A. Dombi, Esq., President of the National Association for Home Care & Hospice. “I’m privileged to be part of the Monitor Mondays team, and really look forward to another 10 years of great, timely information that covers the topics that are so essential to making healthcare as significant a part of society as it is.”

Monitor Mondays has been recognized for excellence in reporting by numerous individuals and organizations over the years, most recently when ExamWorks listed it among its “50 Best Podcasts for Claims Adjusters” in June 2019.

Looking to the future, Buck pledged that professionals from every corner of the healthcare industry will be able to continue to rely on the website and the podcasts to stay at the vanguard of every relevant change that comes along – which, if the last few years are any indication, are sure to be many.

“RACmonitor and Monitor Mondays will continue to be the single most important source of regulatory and audit news and information,” Buck said. “Both entities will continue to focus on the interaction of the federal government with healthcare providers – provider settings in acute care, ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs), and rural health, as well as behavioral health, including the social determinants of health.”

ICD10monitor Announces Launch of Educational Webcast Subscription Service, Covering Wide Range of Hot-Button Topics

ICD10monitor, an online news and information service created to assist healthcare providers working with the ICD-10 coding set, is launching an exclusive educational webcast subscription service featuring 40 original webcast topics and offering listeners Continuing Education Units (CEUs) at no additional charge, officials announced this week.

The ICD10monitor webcast portfolio already includes sought-after topics such as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updates to the Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), as well as updates and best practices for coding and documenting conditions including cardiovascular surgery, myocardial infarctions, COPD, Sepsis II and III, spinal fusion, congestive heart failure, and more. But this new subscription service is specifically designed to meet the comprehensive needs of healthcare providers, physician offices, consultants, billing groups, organizations, and all manners of contractors whose work touches on coding and billing.

Built on a web-based platform, this educational content can be accessed anytime, anywhere via Internet connection, whereby users can gain access to invaluable advice and input from many of the industry’s most knowledgeable experts. ICD10monitor carefully curates the content, offering solutions to many of the most pressing contemporary coding-related issues faced by the industry at large.

“Subscribers to the ICD10monitor educational webcast series can also participate in each of the live educational webcasts, which allows them to ask questions of the presenters during the live event,” explained Angela Kornegor, Executive Director of MedLearn Media, the parent company of ICD10monitor. “Or, subscribers can participate in the educational webcast with an on-demand format, which is as simple as pressing ‘play’ to start and ‘pause’ to stop.”

Kornegor added that ICD10monitor will offer access to the cloud-based Web platform in two ways, via individual subscriptions or on a site license basis, which will allow a single facility to give its entire staff access to the entire range of the content.

“In today’s healthcare industry, with so many remote coding staff operating nationwide, this subscription service will allow teams to get on the same page, accessing the same data and information at the same time, thus delivering the same message to everyone,” Kornegor said. “Our ICD10monitor listeners and readers were asking for an affordable way to obtain education and information that is relevant, specific, accurate, and advanced, so that they could wrap their arms around their entire coding teams, both those in the office and those working remotely, in order to help all of them do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. So in listening to our audience, we decided to develop a Web portal that offers a one-step login, lending access to our entire suite of educational content with a click of the mouse.”

In addition to offering subscribers access to ICD10monitor’s popular annual coding webcast series on ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and MS-DRG changes, as mentioned, the new service also will offer CEUs for the purposes of attaining certification or re-certification from such respected credentialing organizations as AAPC (formerly known as the American Academy of Professional Coders), and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA.)

Typically, education and CEUs constitute separate line-item expenses for any provider’s budget.

“The ICD10monitor educational webcast portal has been designed to be a single source for coding and documentation education and CEU credits,” said Chuck Buck, ICD10monitor publisher and program host for Talk-Ten-Tuesdays, its weekly Internet news broadcast. “The content is unique, original, and relevant, as it comes from professionals working in the ICD-10 environment every day.”

MedLearn Publishing Launches Educational Webcast to Benefit Respiratory Therapy Professionals

MedLearn Publishing has produced a singularly unique new webcast designed to benefit professionals working in the field of respiratory therapy, company officials announced this week.

Titled the “2019 Respiratory Therapy Reimbursement and Compliance Update,” the webcast is currently available online via this link: https://shop.medlearn.com/rt_compliance_update_training_p/art.htm.

Viewers can tune in live on Tuesday, December 4th from 12:30 to 2:00 ET, or in an on-demand format. The webcast features one of the industry’s most respected authorities, revenue integrity consultant Robin Zweifel, addressing what respiratory therapy providers need to know in order to achieve appropriate reimbursement and compliance during the coming year.

“Today’s healthcare environment requires vigilant and proactive actions when it comes to compliance. Department directors will dedicate hours to the review of chargemasters, validation of CPT to procedures, and education of the therapist in comprehensive documentation practices, only to find that incorrect or incomplete build of the department documentation module has impacted accuracy of procedural coding submitted for billing,” Zweifel said. “Respiratory therapy departments are challenged to not only ensure accuracy of CPT but must also confirm accuracy of billed units of service for the procedures. When electronic documentation formats drive coding of billed services, it is easy to assume all charges are accurately coded, but difficult to confirm compliance with standard billing rules. This webcast will present documentation, coding, and billing scenarios from the real-life perspective of the electronic medical record world we function in.”

The webcast has been approved for 1.5 contact hours of Continuing Respiratory Care Education (CRCE) credit by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). CRCE is defined as the variety of learning experiences meant to enhance the knowledge of respiratory therapists, enabling them to provide safe and effective respiratory care to patients. Continuing education may also be used to define learning experiences related to the education and management of respiratory therapists and respiratory therapy services, health promotion and disease management, patient safety, healthcare cost containment, healthcare law and ethics, and emergency preparedness.

The webcast marks a continuation of a long and fruitful partnership between AARC and MedLearn Publishing, which continues to produce the popular “Coding Essentials for Respiratory Therapy and Pulmonary Function” (https://shop.medlearn.com/coding_essentials_for_rt_p/prt.htm) and to offer Association members discounts to its coding and compliance resources as the healthcare environment continues to evolve. This process has included shifting from the acute-care setting to clinics and home health, with respiratory therapists today having more opportunity and risk than ever for non-compliance or missed codes for services they provide.

“We are excited to be able to offer our respiratory therapists and their teams this new continuing education opportunity. Our goal is to make life easier for our customers by offering trusted information they can rely on, as quickly and as cost-effectively as possible, to assist with their coding, compliance, and reimbursement needs,” said Angela Kornegor, Executive Director of MedLearn Media. “The respiratory therapy team and department strives to offer the highest quality of patient care to our families and selves, and by providing them this opportunity to obtain CRCEs with us, we continue to help them meet their objective of maintaining that high level of expert quality care. Documentation, coding, and charge capture are the key to a healthy revenue stream and quality data reporting, which drive advancements in healthcare.”

More information on CRCE can be found on the AARC website here: http://www.aarc.org/education/continuing-education-program-application/crce-application-overview/.
