Question:

How do you bill for intrapulmonary percussive ventilation (IPV)?

Answer:

IPV should be reported with code 94640, the use of this code for IPV was clarified in a 2020 AMA Coding Communication. This coding guideline is specific to a pneumatic device that delivers a high-flow-rate burst of air and aerosol to the lungs.

94640 Pressurized or nonpressurized inhalation treatment for acute airway obstruction for therapeutic purposes and/or for diagnostic purposes such as sputum induction with an aerosol generator, nebulizer, metered dose inhaler or intermittent positive pressure breathing (IPPB) device
