Radiology Question for the Week of November 2, 2015

Question:

What defines “complete” and “limited” in the breast ultrasound codes?

Answer:

The CPT book defines complete (76641) as imaging of all four quadrants of the breast and the retroareolar area. Limited (76642) is defined as anything less than the complete, usually a focused exam. Axillary imaging is included in both complete and limited exams if performed, but it is not required for either.
