Radiology Question for the Week of August 1, 2016

Question:

We performed an anteroposterior (AP) chest on a patient and then three hours later a lateral chest x-ray was ordered and performed. How do we bill for these two exams?

Answer:

You would report the initial AP chest x-ray with code 71010—radiologic examination, chest; single view, frontal. The subsequent lateral chest x-ray would be reported with code 71035—radiologic examination, chest, special views (e.g., lateral decubitus, Bucky studies).
