Laboratory Question for the Week of October 2, 2017

Laboratory Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

Where can I find the latest diagnosis code changes to the laboratory NCDs?

Answer:

In transmittal R3797CP, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the changes that will be included in the October 2017 quarterly update to the edit module for clinical diagnostic laboratory services.

Although the list is too long to include here, be aware that CMS has added to the list of ICD-10 codes covered by Medicare for the lipids testing national coverage determination (NCD) (190.23A and 23B) and for the human chorionic gonadotropin (190.27) NCD. Also, CMS deleted certain ICD-10 codes covered by Medicare for the glycated hemoglobin/glycated protein (190.21) NCD.
