Laboratory Compliance Question of the Week

Did CMS ever determine the level II codes that should be used for drug-abuse testing?

Yes, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently made a decision about the codes for reporting drug-abuse testing. For 2016, CMS has created three new G codes to report presumptive testing and four new G codes to report definitive drug testing. These codes are not yet posted online in the HCPCS level II file, but they do have an effective date of January 1, 2016.
