General Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

What ICD-10 code should be used for a routine device check done every 30 or 90 days? What ICD-10 code should be used for device checks where the patient has symptoms? What code would be assigned for the symptom?

Answer:

Routine device check for implanted devices would be something in the Z45 category. For non-implanted devices, look at Z46 range.

When the patient has a symptom, assign the code for the symptom. If the symptom directly relates to the device, assign from the complications codes in T82–T85 range. If not directly related to the device, consider adding a Z95–Z97 code in addition to the symptom.
