Question:
Who should providers contact after October 1 with questions about claims that contain ICD-10 codes?
Answer:
In a recent announcement by Dr. Bill Rogers, the new ICD-10 Ombudsman, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will support the healthcare industry in several ways.
For help related to claims, contact your Medicare administrative contractor (MAC).
You also can e-mail CMS’s ICD-10 Coordination Center at CD10@cms.hhs.gov, which will, says Dr. Rogers, respond to your questions.
You can even contact the ombudsman himself at ICD10_ombudsman@cms.hhs.gov. He promises to be “an impartial advocate for providers, focused on understanding and resolving your concerns.”
In addition to the above contacts, general ICD-10 information and various free resources can be found at the following web sites: http://www.roadto10.org/ and https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Coding/ICD10/index.html?redirect=/ICD10.
