General Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

What is the Medicare oncology care model?

Answer:

The Oncology Care Model (OCM) is a five-year, multi-payer model where physician practices enter into payment arrangements that include financial and performance accountability for episodes of care surrounding chemotherapy administration to cancer patients. The goal of this model is to provide higher quality and more coordinated oncology care at a lower cost. The OCM will target beneficiaries receiving chemotherapy treatment and the spectrum of care provided to a patient during a six-month episode following the start of chemotherapy. Physician practices that furnish chemotherapy treatment may participate in the OCM.
