General Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

What’s the difference between the Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) edits and the National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits?

Answer:

The OCE and the NCCI are two editing systems used to process hospital outpatient and carrier-related claims, respectively. The OCE includes more than 50 edits that determine whether a specific code is payable under the hospital OPPS. Many NCCI edits are included in the OCE edits.
