Cardiology Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

Our cardiologist performed a left heart catheterization with coronary arteriograms then placed the catheter into the supravalvular aortogram to localize and evaluate the saphenous vein bypass grafts. The saphenous vein graft is catheterized and evaluated. Can code 93567 be reported in addition to 93459?

Answer:

According to the American College of Cardiology (ACC) coding guidelines, 93567 should not be reported in addition to 93459 when performing coronary arteriograms with catheterization of the supravalvular aortogram to localize the bypass graft. In order to report 93567, there must be medical need, such as aortic valvular disease, ascending aortic aneurysm, etc.
