Cardiology Compliance Question of the Week

Question:

Does 92941 include treatment of non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) as well as STEMI?

Answer:

In CPT Assistant, January 2014, the American Medical Association clarified the guidelines for assigning code 92941. It said that NSTEMI does not meet the qualifications for “during acute myocardial infarction” except when “there are ongoing symptoms prompting emergent activation of the catheterization laboratory with demonstration of a subtotal or total coronary occlusion of the culprit vessel.”
