Radiology Question for the Week of October 24, 2016

Question:

Question:

Can you tell me if there is a code for VARIBAR® (Barium Sulfate Suspension, 40% w/v)?

Answer:

Answer:

Unfortunately, there is no HCPCS level II code for any barium product. Barium is generally not reported separately since it is considered a supply. The cost of the barium should be included in the cost for the procedure code and not reported separately. Alternatively the cost for VARIBAR® could be listed under a revenue code for supplies such as 0270 or 0279, or even 0255 – drugs incident to radiology and not included in the costs for the procedure code.
