Question:

Question:

We are sometimes asked to do a limited bone scan (i.e., knee) with SPECT. Would we have to perform a whole body (78306) in order to add the SPECT code (78320)?

Answer:

Answer:

SPECT codes such as 78320 include any limited planar imaging, so if a limited area bone scan is performed with SPECT, you would only code the SPECT scan. It would not be appropriate to perform and code a whole body scan when a limited was ordered just so that you can bill two codes.
