Cardiology Question for the Week of February 8, 2016

Question:

We placed a stent in a patient’s bypass graft to the right posterior descending artery (RPDA), then continued through the graft and angioplastied the native RPDA. The patient was in the acute phase of a myocardial infarction (STEMI).  Would we code 92941 and 92921 or just 92941?

Answer

You would code 92941 only since the graft and the artery to which the graft is connected are considered one vessel.

92941Percutaneous transluminal revascularization of acute total/subtotal occlusion during acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery or coronary artery bypass graft, any combination of intracoronary stent, atherectomy and angioplasty, including aspiration thrombectomy when performed, single vessel
