If an arrhythmia is induced during an electrophysiology (EP) procedure such as ablation, can the cardioversion be coded?

Answer

No. The cardioversion is included as part of the procedure. A parenthetical note in the CPT book at 92961 (internal cardioversion) indicates that it cannot be coded with EP procedures. In addition, the CPT book notes that codes 92960 (elective cardioversion) and 92961 should not be reported with the EP codes.
